Throwing Of The Bouquet – Catch The Magic

It is believed this to one of of the most quirky, quaint, and highly exciting parts of a wedding for all attending the wedding ceremony.

Historically, guests, onlookers in the neighbourhood, would rush up to the bride, to tear from her dress a piece of fabric, lace, silk, a button, a flower from her bouquet, anything in fact that was believed to carry particular good luck for the recipient.  This could be quite daunting for the already nervous bride, excited and wrapped in love, gazing into her husband’s eyes, can you imagine, a swarm of guests tugging, pulling, tearing and cutting away at her very prized, special wedding dress!   How bizarre!

Imagine, however, how elated the lucky person, who had grabbed such elements from her special, unique, wedding dress.  That fertility, luck, happiness and indeed, love would be visited upon them.

Clearly, over the centuries, society changed, ceremonies changed, acceptable behaviour from all in attendance and the safety and wellbeing of the bride, was taken into consideration, and so it was deemed that the bride throw her bouquet, adorned with flowers, foliage, ribbons and treats of jewels, out into the crowd, whereupon one lucky person, who ‘caught’ the bouquet, was congratulated with an surge of glee from the other guests and onlookers.

Imagine today, the thousands of pounds invested in a wedding gown being torn and tattered after your wedding day ?

Thank goodness this little trait of wedding celebrations was modified and even today, remains immensely looked forward to by all guests.

It is destined that the lucky recipient will be the next to marry!
